Michelle Kwong is a Chinese-American director of photography based in Los Angeles. Her passion for visual imagery stemmed from her desire to convey, capture, and instill emotions that she previously couldn't do with words alone. She is passionate about telling socially impactful stories that give a voice to underrepresented communities and strives to create art that showcases more diverse representation. With almost a decade of professional experience, Michelle has shot a wide range of content that includes two feature films, over 30 short films, and commercial and editorial content for clients such as Intel, Lego, Express, Wall Street Journal and Netflix. Her work has garnered accolades and screened in film festivals across the country. Her college thesis film, Inside Boxes, was a finalist for the Cannes Short Film Corner. Michelle’s first narrative feature, Exposure, premiered at the Newport Beach Film Festival and is currently streaming on Amazon Prime and Apple TV. Her documentary/visual album feature, Songs From the Hole, premiered at SXSW and won the Audience Award in the Visions section as well as winning the Spirit of Paul Robeson Award at the Newark Black Film Festival and Best Feature Documentary at the Blackstar Film Festival. Michelle is a proud member of ICG Local 600, the International Collective of Female Cinematographers (ICFC+), Society of Camera Operators, is a graduate of the AFI Cinematography Intensive for Women and received a BFA in cinematography from Emerson College. She hopes to continue growing as a director of photography and creative artist through collaboration.
